How People Are Finding OneWetSneaker…

People find this blog in the strangest ways.

This week, readers surfed in on these terms:

wet sneaker
“emily short”
sarah palin
learn khmer online
mill’s methods examples

–I don’t say much on here about either Sarah Palin or Emily Short, but both are mentioned, and people search for them.  (Emily, I consider it an unfortunate fact that Sarah Palin’s more popular.)

I was pleased and delighted, in an utterly egotistical way, to see the first appearance of:

conrad cook interactive fiction

–I’ll be more pleased and delighted when I write an IF actually worth searching for.  I also get a few searches for:

jacek pudlo
florida roaches

–each of which is somewhat more popular than searches for my name.  Hm. (more…)

If she had won, the world right now would be a very different place.

Taking the Next Step (a Meta-Thought)

We can think of a well-designed procedure as a number of well-designed steps (that are well-put together).

So I was thinking about what we need to include, when we’re designing a step.  And in general, it seems we must do everything that isn’t done, which the following step will require to be done before it can begin.  But additionally we can do anything that we have the resources to do, and that must be done before the end of the process.

So the next step for each of us is to determine what our next step is; isn’t it?

Roommate Update

Today I captured my roommate and released him into the Florida wilds (near my landlord’s inflable pool for small children).  He had been looking thin.

I have a roommate!

Cute little fellow.  I had the thought he might help keep the apartment roach-free; but if you’ve ever seen Florida roaches…

(If he got in a fight with one, I’m afraid it’d win.)

In retrospect, it seems inevitable that any blog I may have would become more & more about lizards.

Introducing OneWetSneaker

The immediate reason I’m creating this blog is:  I’ve come across a way of looking at plot that I haven’t seen before.  It’s not on the web, and I figured the web could use a synopsis of it.  More on that in later posts.

More generally, I want this blog to serve as a resource for story-tellers:  writers, game designers, and all-out b.s.ers.  I’m interested in story structure and nuance, and how those play off each other.  I’ll aim to include some theory and applications, and I invite you to comment and make it known what you’re interested in seeing discussed.

I’m interested in game design and interactive storytelling, especially in text games.  Currently my ambitions exceed my programming ability, but I’m working on that.

I’m a certified hypnotist, and I look at stories as naturally-occurring phenomena – dreams, urban myths, jokes; answers to questions – which we impose rules on with an aim to heighten dramatic effect.

If you have something going on relating to interactive fiction or storytelling, feel free to mention it here.  I may set up a visitor account for people to post that kind of thing, with relevant links.  Email me on that one.

ps – Why did I name the thing OneWetSneaker?

No reason.  It’s just meant to be easily memorable.
